With this inauguration, the total number of CNG stations in Kamrup Metro and Kamrup district has risen to seven.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday virtually inaugurated five new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations, marking a significant step towards a greener Guwahati.

The stations, located in Ulubari, Sonapur, Lalmati, Kahilipara, and Azara, were developed by Purba Bharati Gas Private Limited, a joint venture of Assam Gas Company Limited, Oil India Limited, and Gail Gas Limited.

Addressing the occasion at Dispur, Dr. Sarma spoke on the state government’s commitment to reducing carbon footprints and promoting renewable energy.

He said that the new CNG stations are crucial in phasing out fossil fuels and improving air quality.

With this inauguration, the total number of CNG stations in Kamrup Metro and Kamrup district has risen to seven. Eight more are nearing completion, while work is underway for an additional 15.

In Barak Valley, three CNG stations are operational, and two are under construction.

The Chief Minister further announced that Assam is on track to achieve a paradigm shift in energy production with 3000 MW of solar power projects in the pipeline.

He said the state’s focus on creating infrastructure for CNG and electric vehicles, including the deployment of CNG and electric buses in Guwahati and the expansion of charging stations.

Additionally, the government is actively working on the Domestic Piped Natural Gas scheme to provide gas connections to households.

Industry, Commerce, and Public Enterprises Minister Bimal Borah, ASTC Mission Chairman Ranjan Das, and Purba Bharati Gas Pvt Ltd CEO Manoj Kumar Baruah were also present at the inauguration.
