Lakshman Prasad Acharya sworn in as 19th Governor of Manipur.

Imphal: Veteran politician, Lakshman Prasad Acharya who was recently appointed as the Governor of Assam and Manipur (as an additional charge) by President Droupadi Murmu, took the oath of office at the Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Acharya was sworn in as the Governor of Assam.

Acharya (59) succeeds Anusuiya Uikey as the Governor of Manipur.

The oath to office and secrecy to the new Governor was administered by Justice Siddharth Mridul, the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court in a grand ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Wednesday morning.

Acharya is the 19th Governor of Manipur.

Before his current appointment, Acharya served as the Sikkim Governor.

He had earlier served in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He was also a former member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Manipur legislative assembly speaker, Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, the council of ministers, the chief secretary, and other government and police officials were present on the occasion.

N.Biren Singh in his social media post wrote, “I warmly congratulate the Hon’ble Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya Ji, on his appointment as the Governor of Manipur.  May your esteemed leadership and experience bring renewed hope and inspiration to our state.”

On Tuesday, the Manipur CM attended the see-off programme organized for Anusuiya Uikey, at Raj Bhawan.

Later, the CM wrote, “On behalf of the Manipur state government and the people of Manipur, I extend our heartfelt gratitude for your invaluable guidance and dedicated service during your tenure as Governor of Manipur.”
