10 cadres of proscribed KCP-N arrested, kidnapped individual rescued in Manipur.

Imphal: Security forces arrested 10 active cadres of an underground outfit along with caches of weapons and vehicles and rescued one kidnapped individual in two valley districts of the violence-hit border state of Manipur during the past 48 hours.

According to a Manipur police morning bulletin issued on Tuesday, security forces rescued one kidnapped individual and arrested five cadres of the proscribed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party — Nongdrenkhomba (KCP-N).

They were the kidnappers and arrests were made in a successful operation at a hideout located at  Khongjom Tekcham Makha under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district on Monday (July 10).

From their possession, the security forces recovered four 9mm pistols with 10 live rounds, eight live rounds of ammunition, one 12-bore Live round, one four-wheeler vehicle & seven mobile phones.

The arrested cadres are identified as Konsam Rohit Singh (23 yrs), Yanglem Bikash Meitei (24 yrs), Thangjam Chanba Singh (27 yrs), Moirangthem Anand Singh (37 yrs), and Keisham Nelson Singh (28 yrs).

However, the identity of the rescued person has been withheld.

In another operation conducted on Sunday, five more cadres of the KCP-N who were involved in the kidnapping/extortion campaigns were arrested along with arms and ammunition. The arrests were made at Kakching Khounou in Kakching district.

In that operation, the security forces seized two pistols, with one magazine each loaded with five live rounds, three mobile phones, three camouflage dresses, and a Bolero vehicle without a number plate.

The arrested cadres of KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) are Soibam Lanchanba Meitei (25 yrs), Soibam Manoj Singh (27 yrs), Heisnam Dipak Meitei (39 yrs), Nameirakpam Nelson Singh (20 yrs) and Nongthombam Leishemba (23 yrs).

The arrested persons, seized items and the impounded vehicle are now in the custody of the police.

Different cases have been registered for further investigation, the police added.
