The Supreme Court has fixed July 30 as the final publication for the second draft NRC. At the hearing on Monday, the bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi heard the issue of NRC and fixed the date.

The NRC matter was heard by the Special Bench comprising of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Rohinton F. Nariman. KK Venugopal, AG appeared for Union and  Tushar Mehta, ASG appeared for the State of Assam.

Prateek Hajela, State Coordinator was also present in Court.

The crux of today’s hearing is as follows:-

(i) The Court perused the confidential report filed by Hajela and noted that in Paragraph 2 of the said report it has been submitted by Hajela that the final draft of NRC will be published by July 30, 2018. The Court accepted the contentions of the State Coordinator regarding the delay in publication of the second draft and directed him to publish the final draft on July 30, 2018

(ii) The Court also accepted certain proposals of Hajela for ensuring timely updation of NRC

(iii) The matter will again be listed on July 31, 2018

(iv) Upon being asked, Hajela informed the Court that he requires extra security for him and his family. The Court directed the Chief Secretary and DGP of Assam to take steps in this regard.
