An Inter-University Youth Meet for exchanging and sharing ideas in the field of Public Relations was organised by the Learning and Promoting Public Relations (LeaP-PR) action group and Tangent Institute of Image & PR (TIIP) in Guwahati on Saturday.

Students and alumni specialising in Mass Communication & Journalism streams from the Amity University, Delhi; Assam University, Silchar; Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar; Gauhati University; Delhi University and University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) participated in the youth meet.

A brochure containing the reports of various seminars, workshops and other programmes held in the Northeast connected with PR sector was released on the occasion by Anubhuti Duara, in-charge, Public Grievance Cell, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC). She was presented with the ‘Hope of PR’ award at the 2nd Public Relations Summit held in Guwahati in April 2018, stated a press communiqué.

Duara, who is associated with the PR world for a decade now, shared the high and lows of her professional career with the students. She said, “PR may look very glamourous to the outside world, but it is only the insiders who know what grilling and nerve wrecking it takes to fulfil PR goals. But the thrill that comes in the end is of course a heavenly feeling.”

Hamad Berlashker, Resources head, TIIP, informed the students that TIIP is now developing PR interventions of different durations, starting from one hour to 30 days, to meet the needs of students and other professional sectors.

‘Doyen of PR’ awards were given in recent years to NN Taye  (ONGC) and Trikalagya Rabha (Indian Railways) for their unmatched performance as PR practitioners.

The course coordinator of TIIP, Subhankar Banerjee, informed that now onwards there would be regular seminars, workshops, competitions and interactive programmes held to benefit the young aspirants spread across the Northeast who dream to have a firm foothold in the field of Public Relations. A periodical publication titled “PR Research & Review” is being brought out regularly to give a platform to budding writers in the field of Public Relations.

Delhi-based journalist Abhishek Dey and JNU PhD scholar Shaheen Ahmed were also present during the meet.
