Guwahati: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) in Meghalaya declared that it will not join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre.

VPP leader Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit reiterated the party’s steadfast commitment to avoiding partnerships with parties that hold different ideologies.

“This decision underscores our consistent position. From the outset, we have been clear that we will not align with the saffron party, even at the state level, due to our ideological differences,” Basaiawmoit stated.

Emphasizing the VPP’s dedication to secularism and respect for all religions, Basaiawmoit remarked, “The VPP is ready to support the INDIA bloc on issues that concern the nation and its citizens.”

He added, “We will consistently support the INDIA alliance when it comes to protecting minority rights.”

When asked about the party receiving overtures from both the NDA and the INDIA bloc, Basaiawmoit acknowledged these approaches but clarified that the VPP does not currently feel the need to formally join the INDIA bloc, although they remain open to providing support when necessary.

Regarding whether the VPP will maintain an independent identity in Parliament as it has in the state Assembly by not joining the opposition alliance, Basaiawmoit indicated that no decision has been made on this issue.
