Guwahati: The PA Sangma Stadium in Tura, Meghalaya, witnessed another section of the boundary wall collapsing during heavy rain.

This latest incident reignites concerns about the stadium project, which has been controversial since its hasty inauguration in 2022 by the NPP-led government despite being incomplete.

Locals have repeatedly criticized the alleged poor quality of materials used in construction.

The recent collapse narrowly missed a nearby house, injuring one elderly resident.

This incident comes on top of earlier warnings from locals about cracks in the main stadium structure and an under-construction water tank.

Adding to the controversy is the involvement of Badri Rai & Company (BRC) as a subcontractor. Despite their previous responsibility for a wall collapse in 2023, they were again awarded subcontracts, raising questions about oversight and potential corruption.

Residents also point out that BRC has received significant advances for other projects, including the Assembly building and road construction, even before work began.

The PA Sangma Stadium was envisioned as a world-class sporting facility, but its current state paints a different picture.
