Guwahati: The overall flood situation in Assam remained grim on Saturday, June 1, with three more people, including a child, losing their lives over the past 24 hours, taking the toll to 11 in the current wave of floods.
All three deaths were reported from the state’s Barak Valley. While a child died of drowning in the Cachar district, two died in the Hailakandi and Karimganj districts respectively.
Altogether 6,01,642 people in 597 villages across nine districts remain affected by the floods, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its flood bulletin.

The districts affected by floods are Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, West Karbi Anglong and Dima-Hasao. Nagaon is the worst-hit district where 2,79,345 people have been affected followed by Hojai (1,26,813), Cachar (1,12,265) and Karimganj (45,427). On the other hand, it said 4878.5 hectares of cropland have been inundated by flood waters.
As many as 41,564 people are forced to take refuge in 187 relief camps set up by the respective district administrations in the affected districts after being rendered homeless. Altogether, 2,02,925 livestock and poultry have also been affected in the deluge, it added.

Scores of houses, roads and other infrastructures have been partially or fully damaged across the affected districts. Several teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) and respective district administrations are working round the clock to extend help to the affected people, it further said.
Rivers Kopili, Barak and Kushiyara were flowing above the danger level mark at the time of filing this report.
