GUWAHATI: In a ground-breaking development, Assam’s education sector has welcomed its first artificially intelligent teacher, ‘Iris’, at the Royal Global School in Guwahati.
Clad in a traditional “Mekhela Chador” and adorned with jewellery, ‘Iris’ made an impressive debut, captivating students with its ability to promptly answer questions and engage in various activities.
A teacher from the school recounted how ‘Iris’ effortlessly responded to a student’s query about haemoglobin, providing detailed explanations with examples and references.
“Whether the questions were from their syllabus or about anything, Iris provided answers in no time,” a spokesperson for the school stated.
Students were enthralled by Iris’s capabilities and eagerly participated in interactions with the humanoid.
They particularly enjoyed its gestures, such as handshakes, which added a fun and engaging element to the learning process.
Iris operates with a voice-controlled assistant, enabling it to respond to student queries and provide detailed explanations.
“The children are very excited because the artificially intelligent teacher has answers to their questions,” a school teacher expressed.
Developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edu-tech under the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project initiated by NITI Aayog, Iris represents a significant advancement in the integration of artificial intelligence in education.
It marks a milestone in enhancing the learning experience and catering to the diverse learning styles of students.
The Royal Global School is eager to leverage Iris’s capabilities to personalize learning and make education more engaging for students in the Northeast region.
