Dibrugarh: Union Minister and senior BJP leader Sarbananda Sonowal paid his respect to the great Matak King Sarbananda Singha on the eve of the 222nd Punya Tithi on Friday.

On this occasion, organized by the Matak Rajvansh Unnayan Samiti and All Assam Matak Sanmilan, Sonowal also inaugurated a life-sized statue of the revered king in the middle of Tinkunia Pukhuri, Tinsukia.

Covering the legacy and life cycle of Matak King Sarbananda Singha, Sonowal said, “The renowned Matak Swargadeo Sarbananda Singhadev has paved the way for building an ideal society through work consciousness, brotherhood, and good governance. He united different ethnic groups, implemented various pro-tribal measures, and promoted harmony.

In Bengmara, now Tinsukia, the capital, Sarbananda Singha has etched his name in golden letters in the pages of history. His bravery, indomitable courage, leadership, and dedication to the country and the nation continue to inspire the Motak people and the Assamese nation. I hope that Swargadeva’s blessings will always remain with us as we continue to render dedicated service to our country and nation.”

Sonowal further added, “The Mataks are a strong community in Assam, playing a crucial role in every significant aspect of the state’s national life. I urge the Matak community to actively contribute to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build a developed and self-reliant India during this transformative period, guided by the noble ideals and unparalleled work of Sarbananda Singha.

“The strength of diverse ethnic groups ensures Assam’s strength and a strong Assam translates to a strong India. We must never forget our past. We must commit to protect, preserve, and promote our rich heritage, traditions, and culture. The BJP government has always focused on the comprehensive development of Assam’s indigenous ethnic groups and the protection of their heritage. In the days ahead, we are determined to continue working with renewed vigour to protect our nation’s foundation.”
