Pathsala: In a major crackdown in Assam, Bajali Police thwarted an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of phensedyl cough syrup disguised as a biscuit shipment.

Over 10,000 bottles, valued at approximately Rs 70 lakh, were seized from a truck intercepted at Bhawanipur toll gate on NH-27 in Assam’s Bajali district.

According to Bajali district’s ASP, Tinayan Bhuyan, authorities acted on a tip and conducted a search operation near the toll gate.

The hidden cache of phensedyl was discovered beneath a load of Britannia biscuit cartons within a specially crafted secret compartment in the truck (registration number UP 21 CN 5610) originating from Uttar Pradesh.

“The search yielded a total of 10,000 bottles of phensedyl concealed under Britannia biscuit boxes in the container and secret chambers built within the vehicle,” said Bhuyan.

“One individual, Faeem son of Saleem from Sultanpur in Uttarakhand, has been apprehended in connection with the smuggling attempt,” he said.

Bhuyan further said that a thorough investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
