A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing around seven kg was recovered by troops of Assam Rifles (AR) from the side of National Highway 37 at Konthiujam in Manipur’s Imphal West district.
The security personnel detected the IED in the area and immediately informed the bomb disposal team at Imphal who rushed to the spot and exploded it, police sources said.
Police said unidentified militants had planted the IEDs in an attempt to attack the security personnel.
Sources said security measures were tightened at the area following the incident.
Three detonators were also recovered from the spot.
