Congress-turned-BJP legislator Biswabhandu Sen was on Thursday elected unopposed the Deputy Speaker of the Tripura assembly.
After question hour, Speaker Rebati Mohan Das announced the election of Sen to the post as no other nomination was filed.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Education, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Leader of the Opposition Manik Sarkar congratulated Sen, appreciating his record as a legislator.
Sen was elected to the assembly from Dharmanagar assembly constituency in northern Tripura in 2008 and 2013 on a Congress ticket, but subsequently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the February 18 election, and was re-elected as its candidate.
