Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh athletes had a successful day at the ongoing North East Games in Nagaland, securing a total of 15 medals on Wednesday. This brings their overall tally to 17 medals (2 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze).

Tap Menia and Johny Mangkhiya dominated the Pencak Silat competition, winning gold medals in the women’s below 55kg and below 75kg categories, respectively. Arunachal further impressed with three silver and six bronze medals in the discipline.

Jyoti Mane bagged a bronze medal in the women’s 10,000m race, clocking a time of 39 minutes and 52.94 seconds. Despite strong performances, other participants from Arunachal narrowly missed podium finishes in various athletic events.

Nang Khemawati secured a silver medal in the women’s event of the Indian Round archery competition, scoring a total of 636 points. Several archers from Arunachal, both men and women, qualified for the elimination round in their respective categories.

The Arunachal Pradesh women’s badminton team displayed their talent, bagging a bronze medal in the team event. After a close match against Assam in the semifinals, they ultimately fell short with a 2-3 defeat.

Laa Robin and Nikhil Chetry displayed their badminton prowess, advancing to the quarterfinals in the men’s singles event. Pinky Karki also emerged victorious in the women’s singles, defeating her Meghalaya opponent and securing a spot in the quarterfinals.

Chakpu Takam clinched a silver medal in Wushu’s men’s below 56kg category. Boxers Fenia Paffa, Sampong Rajkhowa, and Gora Yalung progressed to the next round, while Tarh Paya and Likha Jarnia fell short in their matches. Arunachal faced setbacks in football and volleyball, losing their matches against Nagaland and Sikkim, respectively.
