Guwahati: At least four people were arrested by a police team in South West Garo Hills (SWGH), Meghalaya on suspicion of them being involved in drug peddling.

A police source said that the suspects were arrested based on “credible information”.

The operation to nab them was undertaken at the Balalgre area under Damalgre Police Station jurisdiction.

The four suspects were nabbed with illegal substances during the investigation, said the police source.

The accused were identified as Chanchu M Marak of Balading, Tura, Santo Bhowmick alias Kamlesh of Hawakhana, Tura, Raj Barman of Hawakhana, Tura and Topon Das of Singimari, Hallidayganj, West Garo Hills.

The police following the operation recovered several SPSHEN+ – 150 capsules with (Tramadol Hydrochloride salt content – 7.5 grams).

The police further seized an autorickshaw that they were using along with three mobile phones.

The suspects allegedly brought the drugs from Mankachar in Assam and were planning to sell them in Garo Hills.

The police have begun an investigation in connection with the arrest.
