Guwahati: A man has been arrested by the police in Guwahati, Assam for allegedly pretending to be a doctor for over 40 years.
The alleged fake doctor who practised medicine for over four decades was identified as Premananda Rai.
He allegedly treated patients at the New Mahamaya Medicos pharmacy in the Lal Ganesh locality of Guwahati for the past 40 years.

According to reports, Rai used the registration number of a legitimate doctor, Surendra Narayan from West Bengal, to treat patients and present himself as a qualified medical professional. He reportedly began the practices in 1983 and continued for decades.
Rai is also accused of issuing fake death certificates, raising serious questions about the potential harm caused by his actions.

The police apprehended Rai on Tuesday night based on a complaint filed by Dr Abhijit Neog.
Following the arrest, the police sealed the pharmacy operated by Rai.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the full extent of Rai’s activities and the potential impact on individuals who received his “treatment”.
