IMPHAL: The Manipur government has decided to extend the suspension of internet services in Churachandpur district for an additional five days.

The internet suspension in Churachandpur district of Manipur has been extended due to the ongoing law and order issues there.

It may be mentioned here that Churachandpur district of Manipur recently witnessed massive violence, sparked by actions taken against a police officer.

In an order issued by Manipur chief secretary Vineet Joshi, “After reviewing the current law and order situation in Churachandpur district, the state government has decided to continue the suspension of internet services and VPN services throughout the entire revenue jurisdiction of Churachandpur district.”

Mobile service providers have been instructed to comply with this directive.

This extension comes after the initial temporary suspension of internet services imposed on February 16.

The violence in Churachandpur district of Manipur erupted on February 15 when a mob stormed into a government complex housing the offices of the superintendent of police and deputy commissioner, resulting in two deaths and 30 injuries due to firing by security forces.

This incident occurred following the suspension of a head constable who was seen in a video with armed individuals.

Protesters have been demanding the reinstatement of the suspended head constable, claiming that his suspension was unjust.
