Assam Manipur: 6 arrested for looting IRB weapons in Imphal Meghalaya: One nabbed with heroin worth Rs 5.5 crore in East Jaintia Hills

Imphal: Manipur Police on Thursday arrested six persons in connection with a case of arms looting of the India Reserve Batallion (IRB) in Imphal East.

The loot was allegedly executed by an unruly mob on the night of Tuesday, a police report said.

Four Insas Rifles, one AK Ghatak 2, magazines of SLR, and 16 small boxes of 9 mm ammunition which are suspected to have been looted from IRB have also been recovered by Manipur Police.

The arrested individuals have been remanded into police custody by a judicial magistrate.

One Okram Santosh alias Sana-ton (24) was killed and 10 others were injured when security forces opened fire to disperse a mob who tried to storm two security posts on Tuesday evening.

According to sources, a large number of people were “upset” over casualties suffered in recent militant-related attacks at various locations across the state.

The irate persons mostly youths stormed the IRB post at Chingarel Tejpur at about 8.30 pm Tuesday.

They demanded to hand over the weapons to them as state and central forces were unable to protect and defend them from uninterrupted attacks by militants.

Subsequently, the security personnel stationed at the post opened fire to disperse the people killing a youth and injuring several others.
