SILCHAR: The civil aviation ministry has recommended “site clearance” for the proposed Greenfield airport at Daloo in Cachar district of Assam.
This was informed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (February 13).
“I am happy to share that the union ministry of civil aviation’s steering committee for Greenfield airports has formally recommended ‘site clearance’ for the proposed Greenfield airport in Doloo, Cachar district,” said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that with this recommendation “we are now one step closer to ushering a remarkable connectivity transformation in Barak Valley” of the state.
“Under the Greenfield airport policy, establishing a new airport is broadly a two stage process – site clearance followed by in principle approval,” the Assam CM said.

In May 2022, over 1200 families of tea garden workers of Daloo tea estate in the Cachar district of Assam were evicted by the administration for construction of a Greenfield airport.
The Greenfield airport in Cachar district of Assam will be build is over 2500 bighas of land of the Daloo tea estate.
Over 2000 workers of the tea estate protested against the decision to build the airport by destroying tea plants.
Later, the Assam government announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh each for every evicted family of the Daloo tea estate.
