Guwahati: The United Democratic Party (UDP) is confident of a successful performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, citing its past performance and deep roots in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region in Meghalaya.

“Predicting the outcome is difficult this time due to the presence of many political parties, but we are in a good position,” said UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh.

He highlighted the party’s strong base in various constituencies, pointing to their vote share in past elections, the number of UDP MLAs, and their alliance with the HSPDP, which adds two more MLAs and MDCs to their network.

“The UDP has been here for a long time and has deep roots in different constituencies,” Mawthoh said.

The UDP and the HSPDP, under the banner of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), have fielded Robert June Kharjarin as their joint candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
