The Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development in collaboration with Dr Amalendu Guha Memorial Lecture Organizing Committee is going to host third Dr Amalendu Guha Memorial Lecture on June 18 in Guwahati.
Professor Aditya Mukherjee of Jawaharlal Nehru University will deliver the lecture at 4 pm at the auditorium of District Library here, a statement emailed to Northeast Now by the institute, said.
Professor Mukherjee will speak on the topic “Challenges to the Idea of India”. Renowned scholar Dr Hiren Gohain will preside over the lecture and the programme is open for all.
Eminent historian, economist and social scientist Dr Guha passed away on May 7, 2015.
A historian and author who wrote in English, Assamese and Bengali, Guha has several books to his credit including his most acclaimed book ‘Planter Raj to Swaraj’. He was also known for his extensive research related to the socio-economic history of Assam.
