With the Nagaland Government exhibiting a kind of indifference towards the demands of the Nagaland Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association 2010 & 2013 (NSSATA), a section of the NSSATA members have decided to launch a hunger strike from Tuesday.

However, all other members have unanimously decided to continue the sit-in protest demonstration till the government offers a positive response to the long pending demand of the SSA teachers.

Even as the peaceful protest entered its fourth day on Monday, NSSATA said there has been no positive response from the government.

It is for this reason that the aggrieved teachers have made a decision to intensify their voice of protest by furthering the ongoing agitation, the NSSATA office-bearers stated.

NSSATA pointed out that not only the teachers or students, but over 2500 families have been affected because of the on-going stir.

Notably, Nagaland Chief Secretary Temjen Toy had categorically stated on Friday last that the government’s ‘hands were tied’ as it cannot cede anything beyond what was agreed.

He also warned that the State Government might be compelled to respond with stern action as per the dictates of ‘law and existing procedures’.

Meanwhile, the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has threatened to shut down all schools in Mon district and said it would rather make the students take part in the agitation, if the government failed to resolve the ongoing issue of the SSA teachers.

The KSU further said that the concerned department and government shall be held responsible for this act.
