In an effort to generate action on a collaborative approach to build awareness, communicate best practices and build capacity of stakeholders to adapt to changing climate scenario, a two-day workshop will be held in Imphal from June 10.

The workshop will be organised by Manipur Forum for Sustainable Mountain Development (MFSMD) in collaboration with the state climate cell of the environment directorate under the theme “Understanding Mountain People’s approach and practices for climate change adaptation.”

The workshop will be inaugurated by chief minister N Biren Singh and it will be attended by forest minister Th Shyamkumar and president of Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI) Sushil Ramola.MLA Samuel Jendai and Executive director of IMI Amba Jamir will also attend the inaugural function.

The main deliberation of the workshop will focus on discussing biophysical and socio-economic drivers of vulnerability, measures undertaken for inclusive planning and initiatives besides providing policy recommendations to existing gaps by integrating indigenous knowledge for climate change adaptation to achieve resilience in the priority sectors.

IMI will implement above theme of the workshop under the national mission on Himalayan studies. Prof N Mohendro (Retd) eminent economist Dr Lokho Puni of MFSMD, Dr T Brajakumar of Environment department, Dr SS Roy of ICAR Imphal centre, Rinshang Pheirei of ministry of drinking water and sanitation, Dr Rk Chingkhei of Department of forestry and environment science, Chantingla Horam of IMI, Dr Lunghim Rongmei of Department of Geography, Nehemiah Rong, economist, Dimgonglug Rongmei of RNBA, Rocky Anal of NERCORMP, Athanasius Mung of DSSS and U Nobokishore of UNMM besides Rev T Karang of MBC, Tusom east headman Rockson, social worker Stephen Kaisii, social worker Shangaidar Tontang, nodal officers from five line departments, scientists from ICAR Imphal centre and CAU Eroishemba and journalists from both hills and valley will attend as panelists and presenters.
