Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Gajendra Singh Shekhawat exhorted the farmers of north-eastern states to focus on cash crops especially horticulture and floriculture to boost their ordeal.

Shekhawat was speaking at a programme at Prajna Bhavan in Agartala of Tripura.

Asserting that the Narendra Modi led government has been working for the welfare and uplifting the socio-economic condition of the people of the Northeast, he said that the region has witnessed a lot of development activities during the past four years.

He also said that gone are the days when the people of the north-eastern region felt alienated from the rest of the country.

Shekhwat further said that the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ has brought cheers among the farmers despite nature’s fury – flash flood, erosion and drought to farming sector.

Shekhawat while highlighting the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana said that it will have a good impact on the farmer life.

The Union Minister also exhorted the farmers to adopt modern techniques to double their yield.

He also hoped that pineapple growers will get a good price as the state government has decided to promote queen variety of pineapples nationwide and also import the same to middle east countries.
