As part of the All Assam Students’ Union’s call for statewide protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the Bokakhat regional unit of the AASU staged demonstration in protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central Government’s move to implement the Bill at Bokakhat in Golaghat district on Tuesday.

Bokakhat AASU secretary Satyabrata Bhuyan, advisors Dadul Bora, Ridip Bhushan Nath and president Dipjyoti Thakuria along with other leaders of the Bokakhat unit of All Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Union (AATTSA) joined the protest.

The leaders of the organizations demanded immediate withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, constitutional safeguard to the indigenous people of the State, singing of a bilateral agreement between India and Bangladesh and implementation of Assam Accord to identify and deport illegal migrants from Assam.

Writer Nijora Borthakur, Anisur Rahman from Senior Citizens’ Forum, Puwati Sahitya Sabha president Kalpana Chetia, secretary Geetanjali Kalita and former AASU leader Nabagata Saikia also joined the protest programme held at Bokakhat Public Playground.

A large number of students also joined the protest programme.
