The five-day National Wushu Coaching course for Indian coaches comes to an end at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here on Friday.

It was held under the aegis of Wushu Association of India in collaboration with Sports Authority of India (SAI).

Five Chinese wushu experts – Professor Zeng Fang of Chinese Wushu Association, Li Qiaoling of Beijing Sports University, Zhang Xiao Ou of Chengdu Institute of Physical Education, Qin Rancong of Guangxi Wushu teamnd Liang Yadong of Wahan Institute of Physical Education imparted the intensive coaching on news techniques and other practices of the game to around 120 national wushu coaches representing 33 states and services across the country.

Most of the coaches who took part in the five days coaching course expressed that they have learnt many new techniques of Wushu apart from other judging skills from the coaching course.

Wushu coaches from Assam, Nagaland and Kerala also expressed happiness for providing such a platform for upgrading their skills in the field of game of Wushu which was officially recognized by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Indian Olympic Association in the year 1993 after the game started to flourish in the country in the late 1980’s.

Manipur is India’s number one state in producing eminent wushu players and have produced India’s first three Arjuna Awardee in Wushu-W Sandhyarani (2011),M Bimoljit (2012) and Y Sanathoi (2014) till now.

Other Indian states after Manipur include Haryana, Delhi,Madhya Pradesh while Manipur is followed by states like Assam and Miroram in North East India.It is estimated that there are more 15,000 wushu players in the country.

The main objective of holding coaching courses under the guidance of experts from China is for the development of skills of our national coaches so that they can pass on the techniques to the players, according to Director Francis Marwein of SAI North Eastern Regional Centre Imphal centre, the main organizer of the course.
