The ongoing tussle between former Assam Minister and Samaguri Congress MLA Rakibul Hussain and former APCC General Secretary Anil Raja took a new twist as the latter alleged that Hussain had gone to Macau to convert ‘black money’ into white.

Talking to the media on Thursday, former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) General Secretary Raja said, “Rakibul Hussain along with his wife went to Macau on May 5 last to convert black money into white.”

He also said, “Husain stayed in a luxurious hotel with a casino on that day which issues certificates to legalize any requested amount of money in return of a fixed percentage. A citizen belonging to any country can produce that particular certificate before the Revenue and Income Tax officials who will deduct a tax from the amount and rest can be taken into the country as white money.”

He also claimed that he now has the list of the property owned by Hussain in his wife’s name in Lakhimpur.

Raja said, “In Lakhimpur, he has huge property in his wife’s name. Before 2016 Assembly elections, he did not make mention of this property.”

Informing that he has also already dashed off letters to the Election Commission and the Income Tax Department, Raja informed that he has urged the EC to take action against him for disobeying the Election rules by not revealing all details about his property while contesting polls.

Asserting that he would remain with the Congress till his death, Raja said that he would continue his fight until people like Rakibul, who allegedly work with ‘self interests’, are not removed from the party.

Raja also urged the Revenue Department to issue a directive the Deputy Commissioners of respective districts to send the report of the investigation into the property which are in the names of Hussain’s mother, wife and other relatives to the party’s head office.

On the other hand, Hussain during a press conference at Nagaon on Thursday denied the allegation of having property in his wife’s name in Lakhimpur.

Terming Raja as ‘420’, Hussain alleged that in order to create fear-psychosis, the State government has used people like Raja. He also informed that Anil Raja failed to attend the court in connection with a case lodged against him by Hussain.
