GUWAHATI: Eyewitness in the sensational accident of Assam police sub-inspector (SI) Junmoni Rabha has been picked up by the officials of the criminal investigation department (CID).

The eyewitness – Pranab Das is believed to be the only one in the case.

He was taken into custody by CID of Assam police from the premises of a private TV news channel in Guwahati, Assam.

According to sources, the authorities of the news channel called up the CID officials informing them about Pranab Das being present at the channel’s premises.

Pranab Das was interviewed by the news channel, then provided with lunch, before being picked up by the CID officials, the source informed.

Pranab Das hails from Bokakhat in Golaghat district of Assam.

On May 17 Das had claimed that SI Junmoni Rabha’s accident was in fact a ‘murder’.

He had said: “Junmoni Rabha’s car was parked correctly by the side of the road with the parking lights kept on. It was an incoming truck that smashed into her car. I saw it with my own eyes.”

Meanwhile, Assam director general of police (DGP) – GP Singh said that the CID has been given a “free hand” to investigate the ‘mysterious’ death of SI Junmoni Rabha.

Speaking to the media, Assam DGP GP Singh said that the investigation will be carried out by the CID thoroughly without leaving any angle, and for doing so, it has been given a “free hand”.

It may be mentioned that Assam police SI Junmoni Rabha died under mysterious circumstances. 

She was posted in Nagaon district of Assam and was initially claimed to have died in an accident near the Kaliabor-Jakhalabanda area.

However, later suspicion grew and the incident was suspected as a “pre-planned” murder.

Nagaon SP, Leena Doley too denied making any statements regarding the incident in front of the media.

But, two persons came forward to the media and claimed that they knew about the case.

The first was a woman from Lakhimpur named Hasina Begum who alleged that Junmoni Rabha might have been murdered by a racket of fake-gold smugglers.

She even claimed that Junmoni Rabha had called and told her about the life threats.
