Dimapur: As many as 321 candidates from six Northeastern states, excluding Assam and Sikkim, who were selected for various jobs in six central government departments, including Assam Rifles, received appointment letters at the 5th Rozgar Mela in Dimapur on Tuesday.
Union Minister of State for social justice and empowerment Pratima Bhowmik were present on the occasion.
Bhowmik distributed the offer letters to 25 candidates on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Among 321 candidates who received the appointment letters, 67 were women. Out of the 321 candidates, 52 were from Nagaland.
The Rozgar Mela was hosted by the postal department.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhowmik described the job fair as a golden opportunity for the youth of the Northeast region to excel in life. She said over 71,000 appointment letters were distributed to candidates at Rozgar Melas held at 45 locations across the country today.
PM Modi addressed the Rozgar Melas through video conference.
Bhowmik hoped that the youth who were appointed to various jobs will contribute to the PM’s vision to make India a world leader. She added that the country will make progress through their services.
She urged the new recruits to serve the people who come for their services on-the-spot and not to keep them waiting.
“Do everything on time,” she told them.
Bhowmik also had another piece of advice for the new recruits. “Take care of your parents for whom you are what you are today. Make a promise today to do that,” she said.
Addressing the media after the programme, the minister alleged the Northeast region faced an “identity crisis” before the Modi government came to power.
“Now the Centre is focusing on improving the overall infrastructure in the region,” she said. Citing the improved road condition from Guwahati to Dimapur, she said she was delighted to find the perfectly fine road while travelling by car.
Postmaster general, NE-II Region, Northeast Postal Circle, Som Kamei said the Rozgar Mela was a step forward towards making the PM’s determination to provide 10,000 lakh jobs to the youth of the country.
