Come to Silchar in Barak valley of Assam and you can have a sumptuous meal for just Rs 5.

A generous couple of Silchar has taken up the mantle of serving the hungry poor with a meal at just Rs 5.

Arnab kar and Arpita Kar of Silchar has opened an eatery where a full vegetarian meal of rice, daal and curry is priced only at Rs 5.

In today’s sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities, the poor and the down-trodden find it hard to fill their hungry belly with a full meal.

Keeping this in view, this couple, without bothering about making profit has endeavoured upon this noble venture of feeding the poor.

On Tuesday, which was the International Labour Day, the eatery of the Kar couple in Silchar witnessed a beeline of labourers and workers for a satisfying meal at just Rs 5.

According to them, more than 230 customers had their meals at the South Corner restaurant situated in Rangirkhari area of the town.

The first day meal serving ceremony began in the presence of Sripada Nirbhoy Das, secretary of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Silchar.

According to the owners, the meal timing is from 9 am to 11 am every day and that this facility will be available to the poorer section of the society.

The couple said that they have embarked on this noble idea out of social responsibility.

Arnab Kar and his wife have been running their South Indian restaurant for more than three years.

The move has evoked warm response from the locals who have expressed their happiness and wished them for this noble endeavour.

Although it is a challenging step, but the determined couple said that this facility will continue and that they are taking this as a mission and not business.
