Brisk preparations are on like previous years to celebrate Rongali Bihu in a befitting manner at Barnagar in Barpeta district of Assam.

The three day Rangali Bihu celebration starting on the first day of Assamese month of Bohag is being organized under the aegis of Bornagar Sarbajanin Rongali Bihu Celebration committee.

As per the programme schedule, flag hoisting will be done at 9 am on the first day.

This will be followed by tribute to the martyrs at 10 am. Various traditional and indigenous games and sports will be organized on the first day.

Tree plantation and bihu dance competition in various age groups will be held later in the day.

A cultural night will take place in the evening featuring local artistes which will be inaugurated by officer in charge of Sarbhog police station, Sanjib Das.

The second day will also have competitions on various traditional and indigenous games and sports apart from a fancy dress competition to be followed by a cultural show in the evening.

On the third and final day, a painting competition will be held among students followed by a competition on ‘diha naam’.

Later in the afternoon a prize distribution ceremony will be held where the winners of various competitions will be awarded.

Prominent personalities of the region like former principal of Bornagar College Shankar Das, present principal of Bornagar College, Dr Biren Kumar Chakraborty, and president of Sorbhog town committee Pradip das will be present on the occasion.

Local legislator Ranjit Kumar Das will also be present as guest of honour.

The star attraction of the cultural night on the last day will be Jina Rajkumari who will be accompanied by Bandana Barua.
