Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey on Wednesday said commerce is the backbone of all kind of business while corruption is the speed-breaker in the development.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the 19th Anniversary-Cum-Prize Distribution Ceremony organized by the Association of Commerce Alumni (ACA), Department of Commerce, Manipur University, on Wednesday at the Conference Hall of the Department of Commerce of the university, Prof Pandey said, “Good commerce practices can help in curbing corruption to great extent.”

Prof Robita Sorokhaibam, Head of the Department of Commerce, Manipur University, President, Association of Commerce Alumni (ACA), presided over the function. Prof N Lokendra Singh, Dean, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University and Prof GP Prasain, Department of Commerce, Manipur University attended the function as Guests of Honour.

Conveying that the appreciations and compliments he received from all quarters for successfully holding the recently-concluded 105th Indian Science Congress at Manipur University, Vice Chancellor Prof Pandey applauded the Commerce Department for organising such competitions and said good works should always be awarded.

In his speech, Prof Lokendra said that ACA is unitedly developed and guided by the Commerce Department of Manipur University. He stated that Manipur is the gateway to South East Asian region and the State is going to be an economic hub of the region in coming years and Department of Commerce will play a pivotal role in it.

Prof Prasain highlighted the importance, relevance and future prospects of the commerce studies in the present juncture. In her presidential speech, Prof Robita Sorokhaibam stated that the Association of Commerce Alumni, Department of Commerce, Manipur University is working hard for the its growth and development. She briefed about the roles played by ACA in disseminating the objectives of the association.

Ksh Ranjan, Assistant Professor of Commerce Department also presented an annual report of the Association in the day’s function wherein a newsletter was also released.
