Rajiv Nayan Choubey Union Civil Aviation Ministry Secretary, visited Pakyong airport on Friday to take detailed stock of work progress at the terminal building, runway and addressed other technical issues that needed to be resolved before the inauguration of the airport.

A presentation on Pakyong airport, with issues like master plan, technicalities, refueling and other components were discussed.

Choubey instructed different parties to expedite work so that completion would be possible in the stipulated time frame.

The secretary was accompanied by State Chief Secretary AK Shrivastava, Tourism Secretary Puneet Kansal and officials from Airports Authority of India (AAI), DGCA and SpiceJet representatives.

Issues like beautification, indoor traditional decorations and interiors were discussed for which the State government has been entrusted with the job of completing it by April end, Sikkim Express reports.

Choubey called on CM Pawan Chamling and thanked him and the Chief Secretary for providing their help and support for the timely completion of the airport.

They also discussed about the possibility of inauguration of the airport during the first fortnight of June 2018.
