Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, NIT Manipur Director Dr S Birendra Singh, officials of the institute and students leaders attended the day’s formal inaugural function of the four-day eventful festival of the institute.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar said that a lot of research works should be done to prosper technical education in the country.

Stating that technologies have been developed after undergoing research in diverse fields, he opined that research work is lagging behind as the concentration is more on application of science.

So, special attention should be given to study pure sciences and technology research so that more and more innovations can be developed to foster a better living in different aspects of life, he observed.

Lauding the efforts made by the organizers to expose talents of the students during the event, he said, it will give a chance to the students to express their skills in various extra-curricular activities.

In his speech, NIT Director Dr Birendra said, NIT Manipur although established in 2010, can occupy a higher place in technology Institutions and NIT Ranking Framework.

More facilities and infrastructures will be developed in the coming years, he said.

He further said that to cater to an all-round personality, to nurture cultural skills and to entertain students, OUGRI – 2018 will be an appropriate platform.

In the next three days of the institute’s mega event, a number of competitions and musical shows will be organized at the NIT campus.
