The Assam Government has stated that no foreigner has encroached on any land in the state while revealing that at least 43,01,335.043 bigha, 4 katha and 1 lesa land in the state is under encroachment.

In a written reply to Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia by the Revenue and Disaster Management Mizoram Minister Jogen Mohan said that as per data given to the government by the deputy commissioners of each district, no foreigner has encroached upon any land in Assam.

But in the same reply, he revealed that Mizoram has encroached 18,242.33 bighas of Assam’s forest land while Arunachal Pradesh encroached 81,688.17 bigha, 2 katha and 16 lesas of land.

He also informed that along with this, Nagaland has encroached 1,43,649 bighas of land while Meghalaya has encroached 4,850.68 bighas of Assam’s forest and revenue land.

Over the years, various ministers and public representatives have claimed that foreigners from other countries have been encroaching land in Assam but the reply by the minister regarding encroachment has confused the people across the state.
