At least 37 people in Bangladesh’s Jhalokathi died after a ferry caught fire on Friday.
The incident took place in a river near the Jhalokathi area which is almost 250 kilometres from Dhaka.
The police told the media that till the afternoon of Friday, they had recovered 37 dead bodies but there might be a chance of the toll increasing.
As per a preliminary investigation by the police, the fire started from the engine room of the ferry and spread all over the deck.

The police informed that the ferry had a capacity of only 310 persons but it had carried 500 on board.
At least 100 persons were admitted to the hospitals with severe burn injuries.
Apart from this, many people were reported missing.

Many in order to save their lives jumped in the river while many were trapped in the cabins.
The fire went on for four to five hours and eventually, the rescuers succeeded in bringing the ferry to the shore.
