Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga on Tuesday said bamboo link roads would be constructed in the state as a part of the government’s bamboo development projects to augment the state’s economy.

He informed the meeting of the state bamboo development board on Tuesday that a Rs 100 crore Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared for the construction of bamboo link roads as suggested by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Zoramthanga said that during his recent visit to Delhi, he met Sitharaman, who suggested him to make a Rs 100 crore DPR for the construction of bamboo link roads in the state.

He told the board meeting that bamboo link roads will be first constructed within Aizawl district as a pilot project.

The width of the proposed bamboo link roads will be 18 feet and the pavement will be 10 feet wide, he said.

The board meeting agreed to conduct a survey for the bamboo link roads from next week.
