Former additional director general of Meghalaya police (ADGP) – Heimonlang Nongpluh, has been appointed as the chief information commissioner (CIC) of the state.
Heimonlang Nongpluh, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, had retired from service on Wednesday.
Nongpluh became the first retired IPS officer to be appointed as Meghalaya’s chief information commissioner (CIC).
“In pursuance of the provisions of Section 15(3) of the Right to Information Act 2005 the Governor of Meghalaya appointed Heimonlang Nongpluh, IPS as state Chief Information commissioner, Meghalaya. Nongpluh will exercised the powers conferred on, and to perform the functions assigned to him under the Act, with effect from the date of joining for a period as specified in the Right to Information Act, 2005,” an official notification of the Meghalaya personnel department read.

It added: “Further, as per Rule 13 of The Right to Information (Term of Office, Salaries, Allowances and Other Terms and Conditions of Service of Chief Information Commissioner, Information Commissioners in the central Information Commission, State Chief Information Commissioner and State Information Commissioners in the State Information Commission) Rules, 2019.”
