Jorhat mob lynching : Jorhat Police has arrested a total of 10 culprits for their alleged involvement in the killing of an AASU leader at Assam’s Jorhat on Monday.
Informing about the arrest of the culprits involved in the mob lynching, Special Director General of Police (Law & Order), Assam GP Singh on his Twitter handle at 10.06 pm on Monday said the investigation shall be monitored at the highest level including the CID, Assam Police, Assam government and the CMO.

“Reference Jorhat incident – Till now ten persons have been arrested by @Jorhat_Police. The investigation shall be monitored at the highest level including @AssamCid @assampolice @mygovassam @CMOfficeAssam,” top cop Singh tweeted.

The arrested culprits include Bitopan Das, Abinash Bora, Chiranjib Das, Bikram Das, Subas Bora, Deba Das, Saru Lora Das and Mohan Das. The main culprit, identified as Kola Lora, is still absconding.
The incident of mob lynching at Jorhat reportedly took place after a man was injured in a road accident.
Sensation prevails after a video of a mob attacking AASU leader Animesh Bhuyan and journalist Mridusmanta Baruah surfaced on social media.
The lynched AASU leader is a resident of Dergaon in Golaghat district while journalist Baruah works for a private TV news channel.

Earlier, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured strict action against the culprits involved in the lynching of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Those involved in the incident will be booked and justice will be served.”
A police official had said: “We are examining the video footage of the incident to identify the culprits involved in the incident. We have arrested three people so far and further investigating is underway.”
“We will arrest everyone involved in the incident, none will be allowed to go scoot free,” he had said.
