The Supreme Court, on Monday, suggested that a retired high court judge should monitor the ongoing investigations into the Lakhimpur-Kheri violence last month.
At least eight people, including four farmers, were killed in violence during a farmers’ protest in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3.
The Supreme Court said that the investigation into the case was not moving in an expected way.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court bench headed by chief justice NV Ramana sought a response from the Uttar Pradesh government by Friday.
The state of Uttar Pradesh is being represented by senior advocates Harish Salve and Garima Prasad.

The Supreme Court bench has suggested names of former judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court – Justices Rakesh Kumar Jain and Ranjit Singh for monitoring the probe in the case.
The Bench said the investigation was “not going the way we expected”.
The Uttar Pradesh police, thus far, have arrested 13 persons, including union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son – Ashish Mishra, in connection with the case.
