Prepaid metering will be made mandatory in Nagaland by December 2023, said adviser to power department Tovihoto Ayemi on Saturday.
Ayemi said the consumers will have to mandatorily install prepaid meter in every house.
He was speaking at a programme after inaugurating the upgraded 33/11 KV, 5 MVA to 10 MVA sub-station at Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research, Dimapur.

Ayemi added that the prepaid metering system will be to the advantage of the consumers as they will have to pay for only what they consume and buy power as per their budget, besides it will be time-saving and there will be no erroneous bills.
He urged the public to be mentally prepared for installing the prepaid metering system in their houses.
Ayemi also stated that the power department will launch a social media platform for addressing the grievances and updating the general public.

Terming the inauguration of the sub-station at the institute as a big achievement for the department, Ayemi reiterated the importance of stable power supply for any developmental activities.
Asserting that stable power supply is very critical for the medical and education sector, besides industries and commerce, chief engineer (distribution and revenue) Moa Aier, “Unless we cooperate, just one hand alone cannot work. So let us cooperate with one another.”
Chief engineer (transmission and generation) Penrithung Yanthan called upon the consumers to pay for what they consume.
He sought their support in the fight against power theft.
