A 24-hour shutdown has been called in Manipur by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed to seek justice for social activist Athuan Abonmai. 

The 24-hour shutdown has been called from midnight of October 3. 

Athuan Abonmai was an advisor and former president of Zeliangrong Baudi, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland (AMN). 

Abonmai was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by suspected NSCN-IM militants in Tamenglong district on September 22.

Meanwhile, Manipur chief minister Biren Singh has said that he would apprise home minister Amit Shah about the growing protest in the state over the killing of Abonmai. 

The Manipur government has already written to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) requesting an NIA probe into the killing of Athuan Abonmai.
