Two persons have been apprehended by the troopers of the Assam Rifles at Champhai district of Mizoram on Thursday.

One .22 rifle along with one live round of ammunition have been recovered from Chhungte area in Champhai district of Mizoram.

“The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles based on specific information,” a statement from the Assam Rifles read.

It added: “The Recovered weapon along with round handed over to Champhai Police.”

Meanwhile, legal proceedings will be initiated against the two apprehended individuals.

“Ongoing smuggling of weapon is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border,” the Assam Rifles said.
