Union Home Minister honours Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday felicitated Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu at a programme in New Delhi.

The weightlifter from Manipur made India proud by winning a silver medal in weightlifting at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

The 27-year-old sportsperson has been appointed as additional superintendent of police in her home state Manipur.

She was honoured during the 51st raising day celebrations of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), a central government think tank.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the athlete with a shawl and memento.

While sharing pictures of the felicitation programme, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on his Twitter handle said Mirabai Chanu’s hard work and commitment towards the game and country have inspired millions of youngsters

“Felicitated our ace weightlifter and Olympic silver medallist @mirabai_chanu. Her hard work and commitment towards the game and country have inspired millions of youngsters. We are all proud of her historic achievement. My best wishes for her bright future,” Shah tweeted.

Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the 49kg category weightlifting that opened India’s account at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

“This is a small gesture by BPR&D to welcome her (Saikhom Mirabai Chanu) to the fraternity on behalf of the Indian police,” said an official statement on Friday.
