Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive in Tripura on Friday on a two-day tour.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is slated to launch a slew of projects in Tripura during her trip.

Sitharaman is slated to inaugurate as many as 11 projects worth over Rs 150 crores in Tripura.

The union finance minister is also expected to hold meetings with Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and other cabinet ministers to discuss the political scenario in the state.

On Saturday, before heading back to New Delhi, Sitharaman is slated to visit the Tripurasundari temple in Udaipur, 55 kilometres from Agartala.

This trip of Sitharaman is being viewed by many as a BJP’s counter to the visits of top TMC leaders to the state in recent times.

Top TMC (Trinamool Congress) leaders like Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O’Brien have been frequently visiting Tripura to prepare grounds for the party ahead of the Assembly elections in the State.

Tripura has emerged as the new flashpoint for TMC and BJP after West Bengal, where the Trinamool secured a landslide victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
