Meanwhile, workers of Maharashtra’s ruling Shiv Sena and the opposition BJP clashed on the streets in Mumbai over Rane’s controversial remarks.

Narayan Rane’s comments sparked protests by Shiv Sena leaders and workers.

A clash broke out between the Shiv Sena members and BJP workers outside Narayan Rane’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu.

“It is shameful that the Chief Minister does not know the year of independence. He leaned back to ask about the count of years of independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given him a tight slap,” Rane had said.
