An earthquake of magnitude 4 in the Richter scale shook Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Monday, said National Center for Seismology (NCS).

According to NCS, the epicenter of the quake was Kokrajhar in western Assam and it occurred at 1:13 pm at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The place of occurrence was 90 km north of Tura in Meghalaya.

Tremors were felt in western Assam and northern parts of West Bengal.

Northeast is in the high seismic zone, because of which earthquakes frequently hit the region.
