The Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC) launched its clean election movement in Tuensang today. The launching programme was organised by the Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen on the theme ‘My Vote: My Future’.

The Assembly election in Nagaland is due in early 2023.

Speaking on the occasion, Tuensang deputy commissioner and district election officer Kumar Ramnikant said a clean electoral roll is the foundation of the clean election process.

“If we manipulate our votes, then we manipulate our rights and sell our identity. The whole process starts from there on,” he said.

Ramnikant said India being a democratic set up, the leaders are chosen by the people. He said there should be no proxy or bogus voters and the e-roll must be clean.

He sought the support of everyone to achieve a clean electoral roll. He stated that the public should stop the habit of complaining about the leaders for not bringing changes and development. “Rather they should blame themselves for electing those leaders,” he added.

Ramnikant urged all to keep the message of a clean election flowing so that it reached all sections of people.

Chang Khulei Setshang president Nungsang Lemba said the citizens of the State have a habit of making false electoral rolls. He urged the people to help the authorities in cleaning the e-roll so that good leaders can be elected.

Tuensang district assistant election officer Renben Mozui said the clean election campaign is a thought process and the implementation part is a collective responsibility.

The programme was attended by gaon burhas, pastors and students of Baptist Thangyen Higher Secondary School, Tuensang.
