The Assam government has ordered to thoroughly check all the vehicles coming from Mizoram at all the entry points along the Assam-Mizoram border so that no illicit drugs are carried.

Sharing the order, issued by the home department of the Assam government, on his Twitter handle, Special DGP GP Singh wrote: “Continuing our offensive against drug cartels operating from Mizoram and beyond, we’ve decided to up the ante. Request people to cooperate in the interest of Gennext of our country.”

The order said the Assam Police has undertaken intensive drive against illicit drugs in Assam and within a short span of two months, 912 eases have been registered, 1560 persons arrested and huge quantities of illicit drugs, including 20.678 kgs of heroin, 15 kgs of opium and 1.9 kgs of Morphine have been confiscated.

The order said, “during the drive against illicit drugs, it has been observed that most of the drugs were routed through Assam via Mizoram from across the border.”

It also said “this trafficking of illicit drugs via Mizoram causes a great concern and threat to the society in general”.

“Therefore, in order to check trafficking of illicit drugs, it is felt necessary to check all vehicles entering into Assam from Mizoram. Such vehicles will be thoroughly checked by personnel of Assam Police at the point of entry at all Assam-Mizoram borders,” the order said.

“These vehicles shall be released only after due satisfaction of an officer, not below the rank of Sub Inspector of Police, that no illicit drugs are carried in the vehicles,” the order, issued by commissioner & secretary to the home & polical department of Assam government, MS Manivannan, added.
