Senior Manipur Congress leader and MLA – N Loken Singh has been appointed as the interim president of the party’s state unit. 

Notification of Loken Singh’s appointment as Manipur Congress interim chief was issued by the AICC on Saturday. 

Loken Singh was appointed as the Manipur Congress interim president after resignation of Govindas Konthoujam from the post. 

“Hon’ble Congress President has approved the proposal of appointment of Shri Loken Singh, Senior Vice President of MPCC, as Interim President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect, till a full-time President is appointed,” AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal informed in a statemet.

Following the resignation of Govindas Konthoujam as Manipur Congress president, specualtions were doing the rounds that he along with 7-8 other MLAs are likely to join the ruling BJP. 

However, AICC leader and Manipur Congress in-charge Bhakta Charan Das has said that no Congress MLA has left the party in the State. 

“All problems in the Congress party are being amicably resolved. All of us are working out a strategy to win the 2022 Assembly election in the State,” Das had said.
